About the Journal

AKSEN Journal of Islam and Humanities (AJIH) is a peer-reviewed, open-access scholarly journal dedicated to critical and interdisciplinary inquiry into Islam and Muslim societies. The journal publishes original research bridging classical Islamic scholarship—including Qur'anic studies, hadith, Islamic law, theology, and Sufism—with contemporary humanities and social science perspectives on Muslim communities, encompassing sociology, politics, gender, education, and comparative religious studies. Rooted in the Indonesian and Southeast Asian scholarly tradition yet global in reach, AJIH aims to position Nusantara-based scholarship within wider international debates in Islamic Studies. The journal is published biannually in English and Indonesian, and is committed to rigorous double-blind peer review, publication ethics, and unrestricted open access to its published content.

AJIH welcomes original research that contributes to both theoretical development and practical understanding of Islam, the humanities, and Muslim societies worldwide. The journal gives priority to scholarship that is critical, interdisciplinary, and context-sensitive, engaging with a broad range of legal traditions, institutions, and social settings across different regions.
