Publication Fee
AKSEN Journal of Islam and Humanities (AJIH) Published by AKSEN (Akademika Semesta Nusantara)
AJIH is committed to transparency regarding the costs associated with manuscript submission, review, and publication. The fee structure below applies to all submissions unless a waiver has been granted (see Section 4).
1. Fee Structure
| Item | Fee (IDR) | When Charged |
|---|---|---|
| Article Submission | 0.00 | At submission — free of charge |
| Fast-Track Review (optional) | 150,000 | At author's request, upon submission or during initial screening |
| Article Publication | 750,000 | Upon formal acceptance, prior to final publication |
| Waiver (for eligible authors) | 0.00 | In place of the standard Article Publication fee, upon approval |
2. Explanation of Fees
Article Submission — IDR 0.00 AJIH does not charge any fee to submit a manuscript for consideration. All authors may submit free of charge, and submission carries no obligation or guarantee of publication.
Fast-Track Review (Optional) — IDR 150,000 Authors who wish to request an expedited review process may opt for the Fast-Track Review service for an additional fee of IDR 150,000. This option is intended to shorten the initial editorial screening and reviewer response period. Fast-Track status does not guarantee a favorable editorial decision, nor does it bypass the standard double-blind peer-review process described in the Peer-Review Process document — it applies only to the speed of handling. Authors should indicate their request for Fast-Track Review at the time of submission.
Article Publication — IDR 750,000 Upon a manuscript's formal acceptance following peer review, authors (or their sponsoring institution) are required to pay an Article Publication fee of IDR 750,000. This fee supports the costs of copyediting, typesetting, DOI registration, archiving, and online hosting. The fee is charged only after acceptance — never at submission or during review — so that editorial decisions remain independent of an author's ability to pay.
Waiver Policy — IDR 0.00 AJIH recognizes that publication fees may present a barrier to scholars with limited institutional or personal funding. Authors may apply for a full or partial waiver of the Article Publication fee (see Section 4).
3. Payment Procedure
- Authors will be notified of the applicable fee(s) at the relevant stage (submission, for Fast-Track; acceptance, for Article Publication) through the submission system or by email from the editorial office.
- Payment instructions, including accepted payment methods and banking details, will be provided at the time of invoicing.
- [Board to specify: payment deadline after acceptance, e.g., "within 14 days of the acceptance notification."]
- A receipt will be issued upon successful payment.
4. Waiver Policy
AJIH is committed to ensuring that inability to pay does not prevent the publication of meritorious scholarship. Authors may request a waiver or reduction of the Article Publication fee under circumstances that may include:
- Independent researchers or early-career scholars without institutional funding support
- Authors affiliated with institutions in low-resource settings
- [Board to specify any additional eligibility categories]
Procedure for requesting a waiver:
- Authors must submit a written waiver request to the editorial office at the time of manuscript submission or promptly upon notification of acceptance.
- The request should briefly explain the basis for the request (e.g., lack of institutional funding).
- Waiver requests are reviewed by the Managing Editor or Editor-in-Chief and decided independently of the manuscript's editorial evaluation — that is, waiver decisions never influence, and are never influenced by, the peer-review outcome.
- Authors will be notified of the outcome (full waiver, partial waiver, or denial) before any payment obligation is enforced.
Waiver decisions are final but may be reconsidered if new financial information is presented.
5. Important Notes
- No fee is ever required for a manuscript to be reviewed. Peer review and editorial decisions at AJIH are made entirely independently of any payment, including the optional Fast-Track fee, which affects only processing speed.
- All fees are stated in Indonesian Rupiah (IDR). Authors submitting from outside Indonesia should contact the editorial office regarding available international payment methods.
- Fees are subject to periodic review by the editorial board and publisher; any changes will be announced publicly on the journal website in advance and will not apply retroactively to manuscripts already under review.
Notes for the editorial board:
- The payment deadline and additional waiver eligibility categories are left as placeholders — confirm and insert your board's actual policy.
- Consider stating explicitly on the website that this is a fee structure for [initial launch / Volume 1], since journals often revise fees as they scale — this avoids the appearance of inconsistency later.
- If AKSEN has a formal institutional subsidy or grant supporting the journal, it may be worth noting that here to reassure authors about the fee's purpose and the journal's financial sustainability model.
