Indexing and Abstracting
AKSEN Journal of Islam and Humanities (AJIH) Published by AKSEN (Akademika Semesta Nusantara)
AJIH is committed to maximizing the visibility, accessibility, and scholarly impact of all published articles. The journal actively seeks inclusion in reputable national and international indexing, abstracting, discovery, and library services. Journal content is disseminated through bibliographic databases, library catalogues, scholarly search engines, and digital repositories to support academic discovery in law, Islamic studies, religious studies, social sciences, and related disciplines.
1. Purpose of This Policy
Indexing and abstracting services allow readers, researchers, and institutions to discover AJIH's published content through established scholarly search infrastructure, rather than relying solely on direct visits to the journal's own website. This policy describes the journal's approach to indexing, the categories of services targeted, and the technical and editorial standards maintained to support successful inclusion.
2. Categories of Target Services
AJIH intends to seek inclusion in indexing and abstracting services across the following categories, appropriate to its interdisciplinary scope in Islamic Studies, Muslim Societies, law, religious studies, and the social sciences:
International Bibliographic and Discovery Databases
- Google Scholar
- Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ)
- Crossref (via DOI registration and metadata deposit)
- Other subject-relevant international indexing and abstracting databases, evaluated on an ongoing basis for fit with the journal's scope
National (Indonesian) Indexing Services
- Sinta (Science and Technology Index)
- Garuda (Garba Rujukan Digital)
- Indonesia OneSearch (national library discovery service)
Library Catalogues and Repositories
- University and institutional library catalogues, where the journal's metadata is made available for inclusion
- Institutional and subject repositories, supporting author self-archiving under the journal's Open Access Policy
Subject-Specific Databases
- Databases and directories specializing in Islamic Studies, religious studies, and Middle Eastern/Southeast Asian studies, to be identified and pursued as the journal establishes its publication record
3. Application and Eligibility
- Inclusion in any indexing or abstracting service is not automatic and is granted at the sole discretion of each service, based on its own independently published and periodically updated eligibility criteria (which commonly include factors such as publication regularity, editorial board composition, peer-review rigor, and ethical policy transparency).
- The editorial board is responsible for reviewing each target service's current requirements directly on that service's official platform before formal application, since criteria and application procedures may change over time.
- AJIH will typically build a consistent publication record (see the Publication Frequency document) before applying to more selective or internationally prestigious indexing services, as many such services require a minimum number of published issues or volumes as a precondition for review.
4. Metadata and Technical Standards
To support successful indexing, AJIH maintains the following standards:
- Consistent, structured article metadata (title, abstract, author names and affiliations, keywords, references, DOI) for every published article
- English and Indonesian abstracts and keywords for all articles (see the Author Guidelines document), to support discoverability across both national and international search infrastructure
- DOI assignment for every published article via a recognized DOI registration agency (e.g., Crossref)
- Machine-readable metadata export compatible with standard harvesting protocols (e.g., OAI-PMH), where supported by the journal's management platform
- Consistent issue numbering and archiving practices (see the Publication Frequency document)
5. Ongoing Review
The editorial board will periodically review:
- The current indexing status of the journal across all target services
- New or emerging indexing opportunities relevant to the journal's scope
- Any changes to existing indexing services' requirements that may affect continued inclusion
6. Transparency to Authors
The journal's website will maintain an up-to-date, accurate list of indexing and abstracting services in which AJIH is currently and verifiably included, distinct from services the journal intends to apply to or has applied to but not yet been accepted by. AJIH will not represent pending or aspirational indexing as confirmed inclusion.
Notes for the editorial board:
- I have deliberately not stated that AJIH is currently indexed in any of the services listed above (DOAJ, Sinta, Garuda, Google Scholar, Crossref, etc.) — Section 6 reflects a firm principle: only confirmed, verifiable inclusion should ever be publicly claimed. Update this document once actual indexing status is achieved and confirmed directly with each service.
- DOAJ, Sinta, and similar services periodically revise their application criteria; before formal application, check each service's current official requirements directly, as I cannot verify these are unchanged from what I know.
- Consider maintaining a simple public "Indexed In" badge/logo section on the website, updated only upon confirmed acceptance by each service — a common practice that reinforces the transparency principle in Section 6.
