AKSEN Journal of Islam and Humanities (AJIH) Published by AKSEN (Akademika Semesta Nusantara)
1. License
All articles published in AJIH are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0).
The full legal text of this license is available at: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/
2. What This License Permits
Under CC BY-SA 4.0, anyone is free to:
- Share — copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format, for any purpose, including commercially
- Adapt — remix, transform, and build upon the material, for any purpose, including commercially
subject to the following conditions:
- Attribution — Appropriate credit must be given to the author(s), a link to the license provided, and any changes made must be indicated. This must be done in a reasonable manner, but not in any way that suggests the author(s) or AJIH endorses the reuse or the person making it.
- ShareAlike — If the material is remixed, transformed, or built upon, the resulting contributions must be distributed under the same CC BY-SA 4.0 license as the original.
- No additional legal or technological restrictions may be applied that would prevent others from exercising the freedoms the license permits.
3. Author Retention of Copyright
Authors retain full copyright of their published work. By publishing with AJIH, authors grant the journal the right of first publication, while retaining the right to:
- Reuse their own published article in future works (books, dissertations, teaching materials), with acknowledgment of its original publication in AJIH
- Deposit the published version of their article in institutional or subject repositories, provided the CC BY-SA 4.0 license terms are preserved
- Share their published article on personal websites, academic networking platforms, or social media, again preserving attribution and license terms
4. Attribution Format
When citing or reusing content published in AJIH, users should provide attribution that includes, at minimum:
- Author name(s)
- Article title
- Journal name (AKSEN Journal of Islam and Humanities), volume, issue, and page numbers (or article identifier)
- DOI (where assigned)
- A statement that the work is licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0, with a link to the license
Example attribution statement:
[Author Name]. ([Year]). [Article Title]. AKSEN Journal of Islam and Humanities, Volume, [pages]. https://doi.org/[DOI]. Licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0 (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/).
5. Third-Party Material
Where an article incorporates material from third parties (e.g., images, tables, or extended quotations under separate copyright), it is the author's responsibility to:
- Confirm they hold the necessary rights or permissions to include such material, or that its use falls under applicable fair use/fair dealing provisions
- Clearly identify the source and copyright status of that material within the article
Such third-party material may not automatically fall under the CC BY-SA 4.0 license applied to the article as a whole unless explicitly cleared for that purpose.
6. Publisher's Role
AKSEN, as publisher, does not claim copyright over published articles. Its role is limited to:
- Formatting, typesetting, and hosting the published version of record
- Assigning a DOI and depositing metadata with relevant indexing services
- Maintaining long-term access and archiving of published content
7. Notice of License Application
Every published article will display the CC BY-SA 4.0 license notice on its first page (or in its metadata, for online-only formats), along with the copyright line attributing the work to its author(s) and the year of publication, for example:
© [Year] [Author Name(s)]. This is an open-access article distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0), which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited and any derivative works are distributed under the same license.
Notes for the editorial board:
- The license summary in Section 2 reflects the well-established, publicly documented terms of CC BY-SA 4.0 as published by Creative Commons; I'd recommend linking directly to the official legal text (linked above) as the authoritative source rather than relying solely on this summary.
- Confirm your copyright/licensing agreement form (referenced in the Author Guidelines) explicitly states CC BY-SA 4.0, so there is no inconsistency between documents.
- Because ShareAlike requires derivatives to carry the same license, briefly explain this implication to authors — some may not realize it affects how others can reuse adapted versions of their work.
