Aksen Journal of Contemporary Family Law

Aims

Aksen Journal of Contemporary Family Law (AJCFL) is a peer-reviewed scholarly journal dedicated to advancing critical, innovative, and interdisciplinary scholarship on contemporary family law. The journal aims to provide an academic forum for examining the development, interpretation, implementation, and transformation of family law across different legal systems, societies, cultures, and jurisdictions.

AJCFL seeks to strengthen the theoretical development and practical understanding of family law by connecting legal doctrine with the social realities in which family relationships are formed, regulated, negotiated, and transformed. The journal encourages scholarship that critically examines how legal institutions respond to changing family structures, social values, religious norms, gender relations, technological developments, migration, globalization, and other contemporary challenges.

The journal is particularly interested in research that places family law within broader debates concerning justice, legal pluralism, human rights, gender equality, access to justice, religious and cultural diversity, and social transformation. Through the publication of high-quality scholarship, AJCFL seeks to foster dialogue among academics, researchers, legal practitioners, judges, policymakers, and other professionals concerned with the development and reform of family law.

Scholarly Orientation

AJCFL understands family law as a dynamic field shaped not only by legislation and judicial decisions, but also by religious norms, customary practices, social institutions, international standards, and living legal practices. The journal therefore encourages research that moves beyond purely descriptive legal analysis and offers clear theoretical, methodological, comparative, or practical contributions to contemporary family law scholarship.

Manuscripts should demonstrate methodological clarity, analytical rigor, engagement with relevant scholarship, and an identifiable contribution to the field.

Geographical and Comparative Orientation

AJCFL has an international and comparative orientation. The journal welcomes studies from Indonesia, Southeast Asia, Muslim-majority societies, and other jurisdictions worldwide. Research focusing on a particular country, community, court, or legal system is encouraged to engage with broader theoretical, comparative, or international scholarly debates whenever appropriate.

Relevance to AJCFL

Manuscripts submitted to AJCFL should have a clear and substantive connection to family law. Studies dealing primarily with general law, religious studies, sociology, gender studies, public policy, or other disciplines should explicitly demonstrate how their research questions, analysis, and findings contribute to contemporary family law scholarship.
